The monumental property on the Keizersgracht, a national monument spanning 480m², was completely transformed. Despite its relatively narrow width of 5.5 meters, this five-story canal house, featuring a front and rear house connected by an imposing staircase, offered endless space and character. The historical details, such as ornaments and elegant mantelpieces, were carefully preserved, while the aging condition and subsided foundation required a thorough renovation.
The basement was transformed into a luxurious guest suite with a home cinema and private bar, while the bel-etage was redesigned into an inviting eat-in kitchen and living room with direct access to the garden. The sleeping quarters and bathrooms, located on the upper floors, are bathed in natural light thanks to the large windows overlooking the canals.
This project reflects Wonderstruck’s signature approach: a harmony between preserving classical elements and integrating contemporary comfort. The result is a home that honors its past while being fully prepared for the future.
This interior design project was the result of a valuable collaboration between Wonderstruck and BNLA-architecten.
